Silicon Valley heavyweights like Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes and Google have a new favorite charity: GiveDirectly, an organization that makes direct payments to the poor.

Danielle Uskovic‘s insight:

Some research has indicated that giving cash directly to the poor actually improves their nutrition, health and children’s education. Google gave $2.5M directly last year and continues to support GiveDirectly, a charity that does just that, gives cash directly to those in need. This bypasses corrupt governments and charity overheads so the people that need it most, get it.
